‘Crisis Panel’ Opens Deliberations

Lawmakers are meeting in Congress today to open a discussion on ways in which further economic crises can be avoided.

A Congressional panel charged with examining the origins of the financial crisis opened its deliberations today, with an ultimate goal of warding off future economic collapse. According to Reuters, the 10-member Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission is to determine the breadth of oversight measures that could potentially be taken in order to stem future crises. “If we do this right, our work can serve as an antidote…to the kinds of financial market practices that none of us would want to see be repeated ever again,” said Phil Angelides, chairman of the Commission.
