Ben W. Heineman, Jr. served for 18 years as a member of General Electric’s top management team under Jack Welch and Jeff Immelt. Heineman served as GE’s senior vice president-general counsel from 1987-2003, and then senior vice president for law and public affairs from 2004 until his retirement at the end of 2005. Heineman is currently senior fellow at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs at Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government and distinguished senior fellow at Harvard Law School’s Program on the Legal Profession. He is a Rhodes scholar, former editor-in-chief of The Yale Law Journal and former law clerk to Supreme Court Justice Potter Stewart. Prior to his service at GE, Heineman was assistant secretary for policy at the Department of Health, Education and Welfare and practiced constitutional law.
