Boards and investors should examine the core reasons there are few or no women on their company’s board.

It is possible to respect shared goals, yet differ on the methods to achieve the end result:  quality, competent and diverse boards.

The increase in the number of women in boardrooms should be achieved by including individuals capable of contributing value to that top tier of leadership.

A snapshot of the proxy statements filed during April by CBeyond, Continental Airlines, Raytheon, Leap Wireless, Stanley Black & Decker, Cheesecake Factory, East West Bancorp, Talbots’ and American Airlines shows more “naughts” than “oughts.”

The GMI data suggests there is tremendous opportunities for women to prepare themselves for director and leadership opportunities in “non-traditional” businesses and industry sectors.
