Prudential's New CEO Plus Directors Named at PacSun, Sustainable Power, More...

Prudential Financial this week announced that it elected Vice Chairman John R. Strangfeld as the company’s new CEO, and board member, effective January 1, 2008.

 

Strangfeld, who currently runs the company’s U.S. businesses, will succeed current Chairman and CEO Arthur F. Ryan, who will retire as CEO at the end of the year.  Strangfeld will succeed Ryan as chairman upon his retirement in May.

 

Meanwhile, Vice Chairman Mark Greir, who is currently responsible for all of Prudential’s international businesses, was named to the board of directors, also effective January 1.

Pacific Sunwear has named George R. Mrkonic to the company’s board.  Mrkonic is the retired president and vice chairman of Borders Group, having previously served as a director from 1994 to 2004.  He also served as a director for Autozone, Brinker International, and Nashua Corp.

Sustainable Power Corp. has named Michael J. Conklin to its board of directors.  Conklin brings with him more than 18 years experience in executive management as well as knowledge in community relations and contract negotiations.

 

“We look forward to Mr. Conklin's contributions and expertise as a member of Sustainable Power,” said Sustainable Power President Keith Mazer in a statement. “We think Mr. Conklin's experience in management will be very valuable in helping to guide Sustainable Power in the years ahead.”

Stephen K. Carter has been named to Lixte Biotechnology Holdings’s board of directors.  Carter brings with him 13 years experience with Bristol-Meyers Co. and Bristol-Meyers Squibb Co. Most recently, Carter was senior vice president of clinical and regulatory affairs at Sugen.

Targacept, a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing NNR Therapeutics, has named Julia R. Brown to its board.  Since 2003, Brown as served as advisor to the CEO of Amylin Pharmaceuticals.
