New Board Members Named at Safeway, New Millenium Bank, INSPIRIS, More...

Safeway Inc. has named Frank Herringer and Kenneth Oder to its board of directors, expanding the number from nine to 11 members.

 

Herringer is chairman and CEO of Transamerica Corp., which he joined in 1979, holing various positions before becoming CEO in 1991 and chairman in 1995. He currently sits on the boards of Amgen Inc. and Charles Schwab.

 

Oder was Safey’s executive vice president of labor relations, human resources, legal and public affairs from 1993 until 2000. Previously, he was a partner at law firm Latham & Watkins. He has served as a director and president of Los Angeles Public Counsel, and is also the managing member of investment firm Sugar Hollow LLC.

New Millennium Bank has named David L. Bernstein to its board. He is currently vice president of finance for Mid-State Lumber Corp., based in Branchburg, New Jersey, and currently sits on the boards of New Jersey Building Material Dealers Association, the Cedar Shake and Shingle Bureau, Archway Insurance, and the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center.

Stuart Altman has been named to the board of INSPIRIS, a care-management company focused on improving the quality of life for the frail elderly.

 

Altman is dean of the Heller School for Social Policy & Management, and is a Sol C. Chaikin Professor of National Health Policy at Brandeis University. He is a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, and serves on the board of Tufts-NewEngland Medical Center in Boston . He is also co-chair of the advisory board to the Schneider Institute for Health Policy for the Heller School, and is chair of the Council on Health Care Economics and Policy.
