July 01, 2008 Icahn Urges Groundswell for ReformBillionaire investor blogger Carl Icahn is calling on the American public to help him lobby Washington to reform Corporate America. Icahn, who recently began regularly updating his blog after promising for months that it was coming, urged all Americans to participate in lobbying for reforms in response to a reader's comments. The reader, identified as "Dan," suggested that Icahn provide form letters on his blog's site.
Icahn replied, “We intend to put out petitions and form letters. I want a ground swell. I want people to subscribe. I believe something can be done in Washington.”
Icahn is using his blog as a forum to get his plight voiced to the public. He reassures all readers that he personally replies to reader comments. “I’m taking this blog seriously," he said. "I intend to spend some time with you on this blog so that we can make a difference in Corporate America.”
Icahn wants more boards to hold CEOs accountable. “A CEO can fly around the world on the company’s private jet on the ‘business’ of visiting all the world’s greatest golf courses while he runs the company – and the value of your stock – into the ground.”
The 72-year-old billionaire activist wrote that since he is in the middle of a proxy fight with Yahoo, he would not be able to provide further detail or comment. Tags: carl icahn (41) icahn report (1) yahoo (50) corporate america (5) yahoo (50) ceo accountability (2) (398)
