Fellow inmates of Bernard Madoff say he has told them he has cancer. According to Reuters, inmates say he is taking “20 pills a day” and is “not doing very well.” There had been speculation Madoff, 71, had pancreatic cancer before he started serving his 150 year jail sentence. Madoff is also participating in “Native America religious purification ceremonies” which involve prayers, heated rocks to induce sweat and smoking from a ceremonial pipe. Some inmates have taken to preparing “sandwich wraps” for Madoff in efforts to recruit him into their gangs. Madoff was sentenced to prison after swindling $65 billion in a Ponzi scheme spanning 20 years.
