Anti-virus software maker McAfee is facing a lawsuit from its former general counsel that alleges that the company made him the scapegoat in response to an options backdating scandal last year, according to Law.com. Kent Roberts, who served as general counsel to McAfee from 2001 to 2006, says that his former employer tried to shift attention away from legal violations committed by its own executives. The Securities and Exchange Commission, on a tip from McAfee, accused Roberts of fraud last year, a trial that ultimately saw an acquittal. Roberts is suing McAfee for defamation, invasion of privacy, and malicious prosecution, and is seeking unspecified damages.
