A corporate responsibility report released yesterday by Merck includes a commitment to improved governance, including healthy communication with shareholders. The report, which also includes a recap of the company’s achievements in 2008, identifies 158 metrics by which governance should be approached. The issues, according to a Merck representative include “sharing confidential information with stakeholders, taking time to listen to criticism and suggestions…Merck understands that the days of ‘feel good’ [reports] are over—and that companies need to work hard to identify emerging business risks and talk about issues for which there may not be easy answers.”
