No Evidence Against Ruth Madoff

Federal investigators have concluded that there is no physical evidence to charge Ruth Madoff, wife of Ponzi scheme mastermind, Bernard Madoff, with fraud.

Federal investigators have concluded that there is no physical evidence to charge Ruth Madoff, wife of Ponzi scheme mastermind, Bernard Madoff, with fraud, reports The Wall Street Journal.

Without new disclosures or incriminating testimony from witnesses, Ruth Madoff will not be criminally charged. On Friday, Ruth Madoff agreed to give up her potential claim to more than $80 million of assets, although keeping $2.5 million in cash in an agreement reached with federal prosecutors.

Prosecutors will likely move on to other family members and associates of Bernard Madoff, who received a 150-year sentence for fraud. Agencies will be delving into their activities with the convicted felon, and whether additional charges should be brought.

Agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigation and other agencies are continuing to search Madoff’s former office in a Midtown Manhattan high-rise as well as speak to numerous former employees.
