NACD: Foley Non-profit Director of the Year

Rita Foley, Chairman of Pro Mujer, a leading microfinance and women’s development network in Latin America, was named Wednesday the Not-for-Profit Director of the Year by the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).

Foley, the first not-for-profit director to be honored by NACD, has served on the Pro Mujer board since 2003 and has been chairman since 2005.  Currently, she is also director of Healthcare Chaplaincy, and of publicly-traded PetSmart and Dresser Rand.

"Ms. Foley has demonstrated the ability to guide and advise Pro Mujer through changing circumstances, and has shown the independent-mindedness and courage all directors should aspire to."  --  NACD President and CEO Kenneth Daly.

The award was established by NACD 20 years ago to recognize board members who have demonstrated exceptional leadership in promoting the principles and best practices of good corporate governance.

"Ms. Foley embodies excellence in corporate governance," said Kenneth Daly, NACD President and CEO, in a recent statement.  "She has demonstrated the ability to guide and advise Pro Mujer through changing circumstances, and has shown the independent-mindedness and courage all directors should aspire to. We are proud to honor her with this award."

In September, the NACD announced that Edward D. Miller, was it's choice for Public Company Director, director of American Express and Keyspan. Other winners include Alan Dunn, director of Idahom Asphalt, who was named private company director of the year; and Richard H. Koppes, director of Apria and Valeant, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award. Koppes was also named to the Directorship 100.
