SEC Names Director of Investor Education Office

Lori Schock has been named director of the SEC’s Office of Investor Education and Advocacy.

The Securities and Exchange Commission has named veteran regulator Lori Schock the director of its Office of Investor Education and Advocacy (OIEA). Schock, who recently served as associate director with the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority’s Investor Education Foundation and Office of Investor Education, has formerly worked with the OIEA as acting director, deputy director, and special counsel. Speaking of Schock, SEC Chairman Mary Schapiro emphasized the importance of the OIEA: “As more than half of American households are invested in the markets for their retirement, children’s education, health care or other goals, it’s imperative that the SEC have a world class program to provide investor education and promote financial literacy for Americans of all ages…I am delighted to welcome Lori back to the agency to lead this vital function.”
