Securities Class Action Settlements: 2008 Review and Analysis

The number of securities class action settlements in 2008 was lower than the number of settlements in 2007, but not dramatically different.

Cornerstone Research, which specializes in assisting attorneys with business issues that arise in litigation and regulatory proceedings, found the value and number of federal securities class action settlements declined sharply in 2008. However, researchers say this is unlikely to continue because the financial crisis already has caused in increase in litigation activity that could affect settlement.
