Yahoo is currently in the process of approving appointments of former Viacom CEO Frank Biondi and former Nextel Partners CEO John Chapple to its board, according to a Reuters report.
Originally, activist Carl Icahn sought to replace the entire Yahoo board with his nominees and oust CEO Jerry Yang. Instead, Yahoo agreed to appoint Icahn to its board as well as two nominees of Icahn’s choosing. Yahoo settled its proxy battle with Icahn prior to its August 1 shareholder meeting.
Former Viacom CEO Frank Biondi and former Nextel Partners CEO John Chapple are expected to be named appointees by Friday, according to Reuters.
Biondi, who runs an investment advisor firm, is the former CEO of Universal Studios and Viacom. Chapple was the CEO of Nextel Partners before it was bought by Sprint Nextel.
Yahoo also considered Jonathan Miller, former CEO of Time Warner’s AOL business, although he was not one of Icahn’s choices. However, Time Warner stepped in to prevent Miller from joining Yahoo, saying the conglomerate would enforce a non-compete pact with him, according to Reuters.
